Travis Bickle: I should get one of those signs that says “One of these days I’m gonna get organezized”.
Betsy: You mean organized?
Travis Bickle: Organezized. Organezized. It’s a joke. O-R-G-A-N-E-Z-I-Z-E-D…
Betsy: Oh, you mean organezized. Like those little signs they have in offices that says, “Thimk”?

That’s one of my most favorite scenes from Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver with Robert De Niro.  Anyway, I thought about that scene because now that I’m making my recommitment to High Speed Dubbing, I want to try and organize this place.  The categories were all over the place, the links are (still) messed up and it’s just impossible to find anything.  I also went through my DivShare account (where I store all my music for the site) and deleted a lot of junk.  We’re starting over!

I’m going to try and repost some of those songs and albums, but for the most part that stuff is gone.  If you got a chance to grab it then…great.  Going forward, songs, podcasts, links, albums, etc will get put in the right category so you can find it.

Stuart Zender

Formally of the wonderful funk band Jamiroquai, bass player Stuart Zender created his solo album AZUR (as you are).  Unfortunately the album was shelved by Virgin Records and it never quite saw the light of day.  “They So Cold” is from that album, and it’s been rumored that D’Angelo is singing back up or playing keys on this song.  Who knows.  If you visit his website, you can hear an interesting interview that talks about what he’s been doing since AZUR dropped, and info on his new release Running Out Of Heroes.

Bear gets on me for “snitchin’ & violatin'” © DJ Premier, but I don’t care.  Showcasing the origins of samples has opened me up to all kinds of music.  Honestly due to all the samples of sped up soul, jazz, funk and rock, I haven’t had time for a lot of Hip Hop.  Granted, that has to do with the lack of quality in the genre, but still.  There’s only 24 hours in a day.  Can’t fit it all. This song here was sampled by Ghostface Killah on “Buck 50” which was on his amazing [2000] release Supreme Clientele.

FROM THE HEART OF BED-STUY!  I heard this track and was just hype!  Bedstuy/Brooklyn MC Spec Boogie has been a guy I’ve championed for for a long time, and to hear a track like this really makes a brotha happy.  The way he uses that Take 6 sample is ridiculous!  If you like the beats and flow on “Bedstuy“, check out the full mixtape Kid Gorgeous.  You’ll hear appearances by more of The Lessondary crew (Che Grand, Tanya Morgan).

I’m back.  T-Bear’s mixtape brought me back.  I can’t leave this place.  Much props to Bear for helping me recognize why I started this blog in the first place.  I’m going to try my best to keep making post about stuff I’m listening to and sharing it with y’all.

I found this joint while scouring this random guys page.  I’ve been bumping it non-stop for the past week.  I’ve been talking and talking and talking about putting together a broke beat EP, but THIS song made me do it.  Check back to HSD for the download.  And again, mad props to Bear for realizing the potential of this blog.

You Hungry???

Tom’s Diner // DNA featuring Suzanne Vega

When you live in my house, everything equates back to a song.  Somebody is either humming or singing or beat boxing a song in this house.  And damn near every situation that comes up in a conversation gets realated back to a song.  Well, this morning my wife is singing throughout the house.  And todays song happens to be Tom’s Diner.  Havent heard this song in years.  But what I have heard and have used in a mix a few years ago is Daddy’s Little Girl by Nikki D.
